Portland, Maine

We visited Portland Maine as a cruise ship destination.  Maine is located on the northeastern end of the US.  It is the 39th largest state.  It is bordered by the New Hampshire from the west, the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick from the northwest and northeast; and the Atlantic Ocean surrounds it from the east and south.  Portland is the largest city in the US state in Maine.  Portland has about 230 restaurants, and per capital restaurant density ranks among the top cities in the US.  Portland was originally called Michigonne, meaning Greek Neck, by the Native American.  The peninsula was established in 1632 as a fishing and trading settlement.  Portlands waterfront became a Mecca for shopping and trading companies.  The name was later changed to Casio, and then named Falmouth in 1658.  Citizens renamed the town Portland in 1786; and it became a state in 1820, and also the first city of Portland.

We toured the Roux and Cyr International Fine Art Gallery.  This gallery has hundreds of paintings from their amazing twenty five artist from six different countries.

We toured the Casio Bay, a seaside city on the Marine Coast.  We walked along Commercial Street.   Commercial Street is a working waterfront and wharf.  Many have said this to be one of the ten best streets in the US.   We shopped in Old Port.  Old Port is a district in Portland, located on the southeast side of the Portland peninsula, and overlooks the Fore River.  This is Portlands Waterfront Historic District.  We walked down  Commercial, a working waterfront and wharf.  Many have said this to be one of the best streets in the US.  We had lobster rolls, each containing a pound of freshly picked lobster with butter on a roll; with lemon and mayo served on the side.  It is true about Maine being all about lobster.  It was the absolute best!
