I’m hanging out with my daughter Linnea, my nephew Dante, and my niece Lindsey in Manhattan

We have visited Manhattan many, many times over the years; and had great fun each and every time .

Manhattan is the most densely populated borough of New York City.  It is the city’s historic birthplace, economic and administrative center.  It is one of the the original countries of the US sState of New York.  This borough consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the East, Hudson, and Harlem Rivers, and also includes several small adjacent islands and Marble Hill, a small neighborhood on the US mainland.  This area is described as the cultural and financial capital of the world;  and host the United Nations Headquarters.  Wall Street, in the Financial District of lower Manhattan, is called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world.

Harlem became an African American neighborhood in the early 1900s.  In 1910 a large block along 135th Street and Fifth Avenue was brought by variousafrican American realtors and a church group.  Many more arrived during the “Great Migration”‘ which brought hundreds of thousands of African Americans to cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit and New York.

The Harlem Ressaissance successfully brought the black experience clearly to American cultural history.  It refined how the world viewed African American as one of urban, cosmopolitan sophistication.  African American became players on the world stage, expanding intellectual and social contacts internationally.  The African American community gained Black urbanity, Black Militancy; and also the foundation for the Civil Rights struggles in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

The Harem Renaissance, was part of a larger boom time in the Prohibition era.  Harlem Renaissance, a cultural, social and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem, New York, during the 1920s.  It was known as the “New Negro Movement”.  It was a rebirth of African American Arts. Black writers from Africa, and Caribbean islands from Paris, were also influenced by the Harlem Renaissance.

Manhattan, NY is said to be the greatest city in the world.  It has 100 best restaurants.  I have seen plays on Broadway.  My childhood ballet school took annual field trips to watched the Rockettes perform at Rockefeller Center. The Rockettes, a precise dance company, with a dance style mixture of modern dance and classical ballet. I have rode the New York City subway, walked in Central Park.  I have shopped in the Centurt 21 discount department store.  I have shopped in the South Stret Seaport Mall at Pier 17, a historic district in Manhattan, rebuilt as a upscale shopping mall, a mix of boutiques, restaurants, retail stores; and is a 24/7 live, work, and play community.  We sat in the pedestrian only zone chairs while eating pizza and watched a continuous flow of people moving through the streets of Manhattan.  We visited the Grand Central Terminal, one of the few remaining historic train stations in US.  We ate at the famous Oyster Bar located in Grand Central Terminal.

Manhattan has the best pizza and it can be purchased anywhere in Manhattan NY.  It is alway terrific!
