The Choptank Riverboat

We traveled to Hurlock, Maryland.  Hurlock is a town in Dorchester County, Maryland, in the US. It is on the beautiful eastern shore.  We went on the Suicide Bridge Restaurant Riverboat cruise.  We cruised across the Choptank Creek on-board a historic reproduction stern wheeler riverboat.   My first time on-board the riverboat crab feast cruise was in 2014.  The weather, food and service was good.  The Crabfeast menu is as follows:  steamed crabs, fried chicken and clams, steamed corn, cole slaw, desserts, and drinks.  In 2014, we were seated on the top deck of the riverboat.  They began serving from the bottom level of the riverboat, and they ran out of crabs to fully serve the top deck.  There was live entertainment, line dancing and beer included in the sixty dollar admission fee.  Overall, it was a nice experience and a great way to spend an afternoon on the eastern shore.

However, my next visit was quite different.  This year I attended the riverboat crab feast cruise again, with a bunch of my friends.  It was a great disappointment, to say the least.  Because they ran out of crabs on the top level at my last visit,  I was certain to be seated on the main level of the riverboat.  The coleslaw had been served to the empty tables.  There were large flies flying around everywhere, including on top of the uncovered cole slaw.   This was alarming.

The three hour cruise started at least twenty minutes later than planned. In 2014, the steamed corn was crisp, sweet, and great.    I was served two corn on the cob this year, and both of them were undercooked.  I was seated at a table of four, and our table was served one plate with the soggiest fried food ever.   The chicken pieces and clams were insaturated with oil and goes flour.  It was truly gross.  The crabs were served about one hour and thirty five minutes after the cruise began.

The crabs were large in size and served hot.   However, there were delayed in the crabs being served because we had to wait for additional crabs to be bought aboard the river board by smaller boats.  The servers this year were quite rude.  In fact, when we asked for additional crabs to be served to our table, the server threw two crabs across the table of four.   Although the server later apologized, it still left a bad taste in my mouth.  There was no entertainment, dancing or beer included this years.  I am totally disgusted with the food and service that is provided by the Suicide Bridge Restaurant Riverboat Cruise.
