Dominica lies south-southwest of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique. Dominica is sometimes called the “Nature Isle of the Caribbean” for its unspoiled natural beauty. It is the youngest islands in the Lesser Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea. This island is still being formed by continuous geothermal – volcanic activity. This island has the world’s second largest hot spring, named Boiling Lake. This island is volcanic and untamed rainforest. Two thirds of the island is a tropical rainforest and has 1,200 plant species. Rivers, lakes, streams and waterfalls are fed by the island’s high annual rainfalls. The capital is Roseau. It is a rich cultural blend of English, French, African, and Carib people. Dominica is the only Caribbean island with a remaining population of pre-Columbia Carib Indians.
We snorkeled at one of Dominica’s signature dive sites, near the Champagne Reef. This reef is lcated in a marine protected area on the south-west side of Dominica. The waters around the champagne reef is shallow, warm and bubbly which creates a hot tub experience the middle of the ocean. It was a magnificently amazing experience!
The crusine is rooted in creole techniques with local produce flavored by spices found on the island.
