Costa Maya, Mexico

We visited as a cruise ship destination.  Costa Maya is a small tourist region in the municipality of Othon P. Blanco, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.  It is the only state bounded by the Caribbean Sea to its east.  The Maya were predominated in three area which is the Yucatan Peninsula, the central area which is the Peten Area, and the western area which are the lowlands bordering to Belize.  It is located on a peninsula along Mexico’s Caribbean Coast, about 100 miles south of Playa de Carmen.  This is a private island developed and created for cruisers.

The Costa Maya Port Terminal is a faux village complex not far from the Belize border. This port offers everything under the sun imaginable.  There are swimming pools, restaurants, bars, shops, mall, a Dolphin Experience;  and a rocky beach full of amazing seashells.  We had a wonderful day watching the dolphin shows and encounters.  The dolphins were attracted to my  fuchsia colored swimsuit; they followed me from on end of the dolphin pool to another.  We  spent the day collecting sea shells; eating local specialities, and enjoying the frozen daquiris!
