We took the Coronado ferry from downtown San Diego, California to Coronado Island.
Coronado, Coronado Island, is a resort city. It is the resort city of Coronado California. It is located in San Diego California, across and around San Diego Bay, from downtown San Diego. Geographically Coronado is not an island. It is a tied Island, connected to the mainland by a strip of land called the Silver Strand.
Silver Strand is a low, narrow, sandy, isthmus in San Diego County, California, partly with in Silver Strand State Beach. It connects Coronado Island with Imperial Beach. silver Strand Beach has a San Diego Bay side and the Pacific Ocean side. The Baval Amphibious Base Coronado and Silver Strand Training Complex, is home to the SEAL’s training. It is named for the silvery oyster shells that cover the beach. There were clams buried in the sand by the water.
We attended the free weekend concert on the Coronado Ferry Landing. We shopped in the Shops. We saw the famous Hotel de Coronado. This facility was built in 1888. It is considered one of the world’s top resorts. It is listed as a National Historic Landmark. some of the notable guest: George W Bush, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton,Gerald Ford, Lyndon B Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Regan, Franklin D Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Muhammad Ali, Jack Dempsey, Thomas Edison, Majic Johnson, ChRles Lindbergh, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth.
We saw the US Naval Air Station North. The US Navy established its first aircraft squadron, making Naval Air Station North Island the “Birthplaceof Naval Aviation”.
We had brunch at Candelas in the Bay. This was a Mexican styled restaurant with Mexican favorites, traditional breakfast and dinner selections. We sat here for hours drinking mango margaritas and enjoying the breathtaking views of San Diego Skyline. The food, drinks, service, and Tranquil views of the Bay were outstanding!
