St. Lucia is a sovereign island in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of the Lesser Antilles; and located northeast of St. Vincent Island, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It’s capital is Castries. This is the only country in the world named after a woman; St. Lucy of Syracuse.
The volcanic island of St. Lucia has more mountains than most Caribbean Islands. The highest point is Mount Gimble is more than 3,000 feet above sea level. This island has a drive- in volcano, named Soufriere Volcano with numerous hot springs. St. Lucia has magnificent rain forests, with wild orchids, giantferns and beautiful tropical birds. This island has steep coastlines and lovely reefs.
We spent a half day snorkeling in Anne Chastanet Beach. The water was calm, clear and full of seafife. We ate fresh tuna tacos. They were excellent! The restaurants and bars on the beach served the best banana daiquiris!
We walked around the city of Castries. We shopped in the Castries Market. I brought a large supply of fresh spices from 3 different spice markets. We met some locals and had lunch which consisted of grilled chicken and pork, rice and peas, salad and cold beer. We had an excellent time in St. Lucia!
