Samana, Dominican Republic

We visited Samana, DR, a destination of our 2015 Christmas Holiday Cruise.  It is located in a sheltered bay on the North East Side of Dominican Republic, and is the capital of Samana Province.  We watched Hump Back Whales from our cruise ship balcony.  Samana is the main center for whale watching tours in the Caribbean region.  It is in s small plain close to the coast, in the hills that enclose the plain.  It sits on the Samana Peninsula.  The main economic activities are tourism, agriculture and fishing.  The traditional music is Bachata.  There is an annual migration of thousands of North Atlantic Hump Back Whales that come to the Samana Bay to give birth.

We had a wonderful Ime spending the day on the public beach, Colego Beach, in Playa Cayacoa in downtown Samana Port, Sanata Barbara de Samana, Dominican Republic.  This was a beautiful beach with golden sand, and the Colego Beach Bar Restaurant.  We drank fresh Pina Coladas from coconut shells, (virgin of course for the minors), and a Samana (Pescado Frito) , a platter of Whole Golden Fried Fish.  This dish was excellent!
